oh christmas tree & happy birthday to me!

i can't believe how long it's been since i've written in my blog. i think a number of separate entries is going to be essential if i'm to cover everything that happened over the holidays properly. november 25th feels like decades ago; most likely because things have been going non-stop since then. december was absolutely fantastic, though hectic. i'm enjoying my new job thoroughly; i'm happy to be in a new environment where the workplace drama is at a minimum [for now].

we chopped down our christmas tree on the 2nd weekend in december as is the tradition with my family. it felt odd this year with my brother being overseas and my sister not there; but david, my parents and i had a blast all the same. the place we go to serves up free hot apple cider and has christmas music blaring from the loft of the barn. we couldn't help but enjoy ourselves:

on december 20th i turned 28. i can honestly say it didn't feel overly momentous. psychologically, this year wasn't anything special. i think perhaps next year i'll be bawling over the fact that i'll only have one year left before the big 3-0. [shrug] maybe i'll start fretting about that in november.

we went out for dinner with my parents and my sister and her fiancee and had the cake and gift-opening when we got back home. my favourite birthday gift was a sewing machine i'd asked for, but wasn't expecting to receive. [david - i love my ipod shuffle too! i'll be using it on my daily runs, i promise.xx] finally i'll be able to tackle the mountain of mending that's been piling up and start some of the projects i've had stored in the back of my mind for some time now. i'm rather psyched about it. here are a few shots from that day:
