self-portrait tuesday.
this is my first of what i'm hoping will be many instalments for self-portrait tuesday. november's theme is "exploration of identity".
my first portrait wasn't taken today, but it's a good representation of how i feel at times: a shadow.

i took this shot this past sunday while david and i were on our hike. i've found that shadows can have dual meanings/interpretations depending on the situation and the person who is interpreting the shadow. to some they are weak, transparent copies of their owners; mere afterthoughts of the real thing. to others they are where our souls live; what gives each of us strength and definition as individuals.
i'm not really sure what my shadow means to me. sometimes i feel transparent; as though my presence is really of no consequence. at other times though, i use it as a reminder of the fact that i'm alive and i'm here and that's a very important thing. perhaps i don't realize why just now, but eventually i will.
