month of softies.

i am very proud to announce [if only to myself] that i have completed my very first "month of softies" project. this is "boo" the black halloween cat.

she was inspired by my own cat, spark, whose eyes are the only thing of hers that are visible when she's sitting in the dark. i took a while getting started, but once i got going, it was difficult to put down. i created the knitting pattern myself freehand, and though it was very simple in hindsight, it took some planning when i first sat down with it. i know she's rather fierce-looking, and i'll admit i didn't want her to end up looking quite so evil, but i think it suits the halloween theme well enough, and as my first project she turned out just fine. :)

halloween was not much of a success at david's; we had only a handful of kids come by through the night. my parents had quite a few more than us - 31 by my mom's count. i don't know where all the kids were. perhaps their parents drove them out to the "richer" suburbs like i've heard so many people mention?

we did carve some wonderful pumpkins the night before last. we had 3, so david and i each carved our own, and then did a collaborative effort on the last one. on the whole i'd say we had a pretty wonderful halloween.
