autumn days.
today was the coolest i've felt it yet. it just goes to show that autumn truly is here. i love it though. the air is crisp and the trees are bursting with colour and there's that "sweet" autumn smell in the air. i'm no altogether sure what it is exactly that causes that smell, but david mentioned it today when we went out the door and i couldn't help but wonder about it myself.
today we went to value village. i didn't find much; only 2 balls of black acrylic yarn that i'll use to make a winter hat for a friend who's requested one, and a cute little vintage coffee mug with a little wildlife/deer motif on the outside. it's the inside that really caught my attention; it's coated in a shiny emerald green slip and i love the colour. also, it's made in england and not china or taiwan - so the quality of the mug is definitely higher. afterward we stopped in at the craft sale my mom's participating in and bought her a tea, a cup of lemonade, and an eggsalad sandwich. it turns out she sold a number of pieces today and i've got my fingers crossed for her that tomorrow will be even more successful as it's the weekend and people are starting their christmas shopping. i always love to see the look on her face when her items sell. nothing beats the feeling of knowing your work is appreciated. hobbies can be so rewarding on so many levels. here's a shot of her at her table:
tomorrow david and i will be up early [supposedly 8am] and we're going to grab a couple of earl grey tea and our cameras and go for a brisk morning stroll. i hope we actually get up and go - i always find i feel better when i've started the day with some exercise and some fresh air. plus the scenery is just out-of-this-world right now. i'll be really upset if we don't get out for a few hikes to see it all; last year we never went.
sunday we're heading to the aberfoyle flea and antique market to scope out the goodies there, and then on to st. jacobs to pick up the pottery bowls i ordered for my set. i've been collecting pieces from a specific potter there for nearly 10 years now and it's nearly finished. i only need a few less-common items now. i have a pie plte, butter dish, teapot and mug set, cream and sugar set, 10 dinner plates, oil lamp, tall utensil holder, casserole dishes, salt and pepper shakers, cheese plate, spoon rest, canister set, and a wall planter. the bowls are my latest addition and i'm hoping to order a large serving tray as well [providing he makes them]. all i'll be needing after that is a shelf or some description to display it all on. i can't imagine what that's going to cost me. eek!
anyway...right now the house is permeated with the smell of mom's freshly-baked peanut butter and walnut cookies and i'm waiting for my tea to finish steeping. i believe tonight will be spent knitting in front of the fire or t.v. while watching a sappy romantic comedy-type movie. i'm going to post a picture of one of my late eggplants. i say "late" because the plants shot up quickly after i planted them in the early summer and produced oodles of flowers but not one fruit. i'd all but given up on them when i went out to look at the garden a couple of weeks ago and found 4 little guys hanging there proudly. they're small and won't get any larger at this point, but the sight of them made me so happy that i did a ridiculous little half-jumping half-dancing "thing" across the backyard while my mom laughed at me. i'm so very proud of them, so i'll put one of them up here so i can share [and gloat - just a 'lil bit].
