busy. busy. busy.
this past week has been so jam-packed full of things that i've barely had time to sit down. i took some much-needed time off from work [tuesday till saturday] to clear my head and get myself back on the right track, and it's been well worth it.
knowing how discontented i've been at my current job [waitressing], my friend marsha put in a good word for me at a local artists' supply store and, after an awkward resume submission, i now have a formal interview scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00pm! i'm so excited about it, i'm afraid i won't be sleeping well tonight. i've been needing to get out of the restaurant for some time now as it's nothing but a source of extreme stress and anxiety for me. to make a long story short: i work with people who have no respect for one another or the people they work for and i'm constantly being ridiculed for my strong work ethic. i need a change of pace, a change of scenery, and some positive people to work with. i know i'd be taking a sizable pay cut, but regaining my sanity is definitely worth it. also, i don't intend to quit altogether at the restaurant; i'd really prefer to just drop a shift or two and balance 5 shifts between the two places. i really hope it works out. cross your fingers for me!
according to marsha, i'm going through an "awakening phase" right now. i suppose she's right too [when isn't she?]; i really can't explain my feelings otherwise. lately my urge to do something different has been overwhelming; i've so many numerous ideas and notions running circles in my head that i don't know where to start. i agree with her that getting out of the stagnating atmosphere of the restaurant would be best for me - i need to be in a more nurturing environment. i have a feeling this could all be the start of something big for me. i can't help but feel giddy right now just thinking about the possibilities. :D
we had our first substantial snowfall this past friday. david and i made the most of it and headed outside to snap some pictures for keith [my brother] who is currently in japan for his 3rd year of university. while we were out we built our first snowman. there wasn't near enough snow to make anything enormous, but we did ok i think:
he was roughly 6" tall and had a little leaf for hair and a small, flat snow beret - both of which were lost due to the strong wind we had. we sat him on the railing on the front porch. unfortunately his time with us was limited as the following day was rather warm and the sun came out.
i was able to get to value village this week as well. i didn't find much there except a cotton canvas bag that advertised [i think] a brand of milk chocolate in what i believe to be finnish/swedish/danish. i know it's one of the three... plus i found a little red leather box with stitched leather appliqué on the lid. it was $1.50 and just so cute! i couldn't pass it up.
afterward i headed over to michael's where i picked up a few skeins of yarn for the wiggly worm scarves i'll be making for marsha and her son, and david's goddaughter [aaliyah] and her sister [naya]. i've yet to find some suitable buttons for the eyes, but i know i must have some in my huge button stash. the pink will be for aaliyah; the lilac is for naya; and the lime green will [i hope] be enough to create a scarf for marsha and her little boy james. if not, i guess i'll be heading up to michael's sooner than i'd expected. i also scored a booklet on various knitted dishcloth patterns. i've been using the "company dishcloth" pattern in my knitting pretty book, and although it's nice, i'm happy to have something with a little variation.
this week i'm back to my regular 5 shifts at the restaurant - hopefully for the last time. david and i are hoping to have our teacher's college applications submitted by wednesday, so it looks as though it's going to be another hectic week. i can't wait until christmas, and already it's less than a month until my birthday. eek! the time is going to fly, but i really don't care. i adore this time of year.
