merry christmas & happy new year!
christmas eve and christmas day were wonderful this year. however, i am looking forward to the time when everyone will be together for christmas. that time will come, eventually, but somehow that's just not soon enough for me. this year felt emptier without my brother there to provided his usual wit and i always miss david's presence when he's gone any longer than a day or so.
my sister and her fiancee arrived christmas eve and we had some hors d'oeuvres, watched a christmas story on tv, and listened to my sister scratch out christmas carols and "twinkle twinkle little star" through her newest hobby:

my brother also "stopped in" via webcam from japan to chat with everyone for an hour or so:

it was strange yet reassuring at the same time to be speaking with him through the web. somehow some of the emptiness i was feeling was filled that way. i miss him.
christmas morning was rather laid back and calm too. for the first time in years i was the first one up and had to wait for everyone else to slowly stumble out of bed. we opened gifts and then had a lovely breakfast and relaxed for the better part of the day until my sister and her fiancee departed for his mom's place in kingston [a 3-hour drive].
i departed the following morning to spend the remainder of my holiday with david's family in windsor. i'm amazed at how well i handled the business of it all this year; i recall last year's festivities to be more than i could handle, and i ended up quite sick afterward.
my new year was very tame. i didn't make any strict resolutions, though i know i'll end up making some up along the way. it seems that with each passing year, the more i try to stick to, the less i accomplish. actually, i can't recall following through with any of my new year's resolutions. ew. sad. this year i'm going to be more open with things and attack my life's problem areas as i discover them. there's really no use in setting dozens of goals when realistically, i may only ever tackle one or two of them; it all just ends up in disappointment and self-laothing. so, i'll try one thing at a time and see how that goes.
i hope everyone else had a happy new year and 2006 is treating you well thus far. we'll see if i get around to typing here more often. i hope so. it seems to be a good way to showcase my accomplishments to others and [most importantly] myself. speaking of accomplishments, there's bound to be lots of that in the next few months with the addition of my new sewing machine and knitting books. my fingers get itchy just thinking about it.
happy new year!
