the winds of change...
...are definetly blowing my way.
goodness. it's been some time now since i last made an entry here. lots has happened in between. well, maybe not a ton of stuff, but some pretty important things, let's just say. david moved back to windsor a week ago today to do teacher's college. he's doing very well and seems to be adjusting just fine. of course, i think the fact that he has all of his boys from highschool there to distract him is making things that much easier on him. he believes that's the case too and that school will serve as another much-needed distraction when his classes start up tomorrow. i envy him. i wish i had more distractions. it's been odd not seeing him every day, but i know i too will adjust to the change and the hole that feels like emptiness and loneliness will be filled up with other things as well. [hopefully some long-overdue crafting?]
speaking of other things...i found an apartment yesterday. it's my very first apartment that will be entirely my own. i move october 1st. i'm ecstatic and terrified at the same time, but mostly just really happy. i know i'll be fine, but the fact that it's actually going to happen now has me freaking out; i've written multiple budget lists and have tallied my assets - what can i get rid of? what can i sell for some extra money? overnight it feels as though a mini tornado has taken root in my brain is building in momentum and size. it's exhillerating, but overwhelming too. i hardly slept last night.
my place is the first floor of an older home [which i love because it has character!] there's a little sitting area/living room, 1 bedroom, full bath, kitchen and pantry, dining area [!], walk-in closet [well, at least it's 5 times larger than my closet i have now, and technically, i CAN walk into it and move around if i want], shared front and back yards, and a back deck that's just mine! it has everything i want: 10 minute walk to work, a yard for the cats to wander around in [while on their leads, of course], gardening space, a deck, it's clean, hardwood floors, and the building has charm. i didn't take pictures as there is still a tenant in there and i didn't want to invade anyone's privacy, but i'll post some shortly after i move in. the bedroom must be painted too. it's blue [which i know david will love, but i think it needs to be brighter]. besides, he won't be moving back to this area for another 8 months, so for that time i get to do whatever i please with the colours and set-up of the place.
david and i enjoyed a weekend at the cottage the weekend before he went away [aug. 25-28]. it was cool and rainy, but still quite enjoyable. the cotttage is located on lake huron in a place called kettle point. it's named for the strange rock formations, or 'kettles' that litter the shale-encrusted beach and shallow lake water. the rocks are perfectly spherical and how they're formed is apparently unknown. here are a few shots of the kettles, the shale beach, and our cottaging adventures in general:

these images bring about mixed emotions for me. they signify the closing of a wonderful summer that i was hoping would never end, but more importantly they're reminders of happy times shared by david and i. i'm looking forward to our holiday visits and long train rides through farmlands and small towns alive with autumn's colours. this separation will be quite a test of personal and emotional strength for both of us, but i trust in the process of life and i know that really this is one of the best possible things for both of us right now. cooler weather is coming, and that always ushers in new things to do. i know it's the time of year when i feel most alive and eager to try new things and explore new hobbies...this is going to be so good.
